How the converter works

• Strict, classic Markdown. The conversion is done by commonmark.js, the reference implementation of CommonMark, the standard that defines classic Markdown exactly. Headings, paragraphs, emphasis, links, images, lists, quotes, code blocks and horizontal rules are converted the way the standard says.
• A single line break is not a line break. In Markdown the lines of one paragraph are joined. To force a break, end the line with two spaces or a backslash, or leave an empty line for a new paragraph.
• Raw HTML stays. Markdown has always allowed HTML inside the text, so it is passed to the result unchanged. The code you copy is not cleaned, so remove scripts from text you do not trust before you publish it.
• The preview is safe. It is shown in a frame that cannot run scripts, so a script inside the text does nothing here.
• Front matter. If your text starts with a line --- (as in Hugo, Astro and Grav), everything up to the next --- line is skipped and does not appear in the HTML. Only the title: and description: lines inside the block are used: they are written at the top of the HTML, before the converted text, as <title> and <meta name="description">. Everything else in the block, such as the date or the tags, is dropped.

Limitations

• Only classic Markdown. Tables, strikethrough (~~text~~), task lists, footnotes, heading ids, automatic links for bare addresses and syntax highlighting are extensions of GitHub-flavored Markdown or of a particular engine. They are not converted and stay as you typed them.
• No engine features. Shortcodes such as Hugo's {{< figure >}}, Astro components and Grav plugins are not interpreted.
• Front matter is read simply. Only the top-level lines title: value and description: value are read, as plain text, in quotes, or as folded (>) and literal (|) text. Nested values are skipped. The block must start on the very first line and be closed by another --- line; without the closing line the text is converted as ordinary Markdown. A text that really starts with a horizontal rule --- and has another one later is read as front matter, so put a blank line or some text before the first rule. TOML front matter (+++) is not recognized.
• The preview is a plain preview. It does not use the styles of your site, and remote images are loaded from the address you wrote.
