Free Online Image Compressor: Compress JPG, PNG and WebP and Remove EXIF Data in Your Browser
Reduce the file size of your pictures without sending them to anyone. This image optimizer compresses photos and graphics directly in your browser, so your files never leave your device: there is no upload, no waiting in a queue and no server-side file size limit. Every compressed image also comes out without EXIF and GPS metadata.
Remove EXIF and GPS metadata from photos
Photos taken with a phone or a camera usually carry hidden data: the GPS location where the picture was taken, the date and time, the camera or phone model, the software used and sometimes even a serial number. If you share such a photo, anyone who gets the file can read this information, which is a real privacy risk for personal photos, marketplace listings, forum posts, social profiles or any account that must stay anonymous.
This tool re-encodes every image in your browser, and the new file is created from the pixels only. All metadata is dropped: EXIF, GPS coordinates, camera and lens details, timestamps, thumbnails, XMP and IPTC fields. Each result is marked "Metadata removed", so you can see it at a glance, and the original file on your device is never changed.
Keep in mind what metadata removal does not cover. It does not hide what the picture itself shows (faces, street signs, license plates, reflections), and the downloaded file keeps the original file name with "-compressed" added, so rename it if the name itself reveals something.
How to compress an image
- Drop one or more images into the box or choose them from your device (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP).
- Move the quality slider. The results update automatically, and 70-85% is usually a good balance between size and sharpness.
- Optionally set a maximum width to scale large photos down. Smaller dimensions reduce the file size the most.
- Check the new size and the percentage saved, then download each compressed image.
Why compress images?
Images are usually the heaviest part of a web page. Smaller files make pages load faster, which improves the experience on mobile connections, helps Core Web Vitals and search rankings, and saves bandwidth and storage. Compressed pictures are also easier to send by email or upload to forms with strict size limits.
WebP or JPG?
WebP normally gives a smaller file than JPG at the same visual quality and keeps transparency, and it is supported by all modern browsers. JPG is the most compatible choice for older software and devices. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas of a PNG become white when you export to JPG.
Features
- 100% private: images are processed locally in your browser and are never uploaded
- Strips EXIF, GPS location, camera details and timestamps from every compressed image
- Compress several images at once and see the original size, the new size and the savings for each one
- Choose WebP or JPG output and adjust the quality with a live preview of the result
- Resize by maximum width while keeping the aspect ratio
- Free to use, no registration and no watermark
Note: animated GIFs are converted using their first frame, and a picture that is already well optimized may not get smaller, in which case the tool tells you so.
