Emoji Remover: Clean Emojis, Hidden Characters and Fancy Letters Out of a Text

You copied a post or a message and it came with emojis you do not want? Paste it here: the emojis are removed, and the result is ready to copy. The same tool also removes the characters you cannot see, turns "fancy" letters from social networks back into normal ones and tidies the spaces and the empty lines. Every step is a switch, so you choose what is changed. Everything happens in your browser: the text is never uploaded.

When do you need it

• A text from Telegram, Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp that has to go into a document, a report, a spreadsheet, an email or a website without the emojis.
• A place that does not accept emojis. Some forms and old databases refuse them or show them as question marks, and a text message with an emoji is split into shorter parts, so it costs more.
• Hidden characters. A text copied from a web page, a PDF or Word can hold zero width spaces, soft hyphens and non-breaking spaces. You do not see them, but they break a search, a comparison of two texts, a password, a link or a line of code.
• "Fancy" letters. Social networks have no bold or italic, so people use special characters that look like 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱 or 𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤 letters. They are different characters, so the text cannot be found by a search, spell-checked or read well by a screen reader. The tool turns them back into normal letters.
• A text with broken lines. A text from a PDF has a line break at the end of every line; "join the lines" makes paragraphs of them.

What each option does

• Remove emoji: every emoji goes as a whole, also the ones made of several characters: flags, families, people with a skin tone and digits in a frame. Nothing is left behind. The decision is made from the Unicode data and not from a fixed list, so new emojis are removed too. The signs ©, ® and ™ and the arrows are on the list of emoji in Unicode, but they are usually text, so they stay by default; switch that off if you want them removed.
• Remove hidden characters: the zero width space, the word joiner, the byte order mark, the soft hyphen and the control codes.
• Odd spaces: the non-breaking space and the other special spaces become a normal space.
• Fancy letters: bold, italic, script, gothic, double-struck, monospace, full width, circled and small capital letters and digits become normal ones. Marks that draw a strike-through or an underline can be removed too.
• Spaces and lines: repeated spaces become one, spaces at the ends of lines are cut, extra empty lines are removed, and the lines of a paragraph can be joined. Curly quotes, long dashes and the ellipsis can be turned into the plain signs.

Under the text you see what was changed, for example "Emoji removed: 7", so you know the tool did what you asked. Your choice of switches is kept in the browser for the next visit.

What is never touched

Letters of every language, digits, the signs # and * (only a digit in a frame is an emoji), normal punctuation and line breaks (unless you ask to join them). The zero width joiners that Persian and Hindi texts need stay too, so the words of those languages are not broken.

Limitations

• Some old text signs, such as ☺, ♥ or ✂, are emojis in Unicode and are removed with the others.
• A sticker, a GIF or a picture is not text: only characters are removed.
• Fancy Greek letters and letters that are drawn as pictures are not changed.
• To remove HTML tags use the HTML tags remover, and to remove repeated lines use sort and shuffle lines.
