JPG to PNG Converter
JPG to PNG Converter Online, Free
Convert JPG (JPEG) images to PNG in your browser. Add one picture or many, and download the PNG files one by one or in a ZIP archive. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs on your device.
How to convert JPG to PNG
- Drop your JPG files into the box above, click it to choose them, or choose several at once.
- The conversion starts at once; the result is a standard PNG with the same size as the picture, or smaller if you set a maximum width.
- Download each PNG or all of them in one ZIP. You can also get a PDF.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?
No. A JPG has already lost some detail when it was saved, and no converter can bring it back. The PNG shows exactly the same picture, including the faint blocks and halos of JPG compression, and it takes several times more space. What the conversion gives you is a format that does not lose anything any more: you can edit and save the PNG as often as you like without further damage.
Why convert JPG to PNG?
- Editing. Every save as JPG discards a little more detail; work in PNG and make a JPG once at the end.
- Forms and software that require PNG, for example logos, icons, game and app assets.
- Lossless screenshots and graphics that were saved as JPG by mistake (the artifacts stay, but they will not get worse).
JPG to transparent PNG: does it work?
The conversion does not create transparency. A JPG has no transparent areas: the background is a normal part of the picture, so the PNG gets the same background. To make it transparent you have to remove the background in a graphics editor (the “magic wand”, “select by color” or background removal tools), then save the result as PNG. This converter does not remove backgrounds.
JPG vs PNG: which format is better?
| JPG (JPEG) | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossy: some detail is discarded | Lossless: every pixel is kept |
| Best for | Photos and pictures with smooth colors | Screenshots, text, logos, drawings, graphics with sharp edges |
| File size of a photo | Small | Several times larger |
| Transparency | No | Yes, with soft edges |
| Saving again and again | Loses a little quality every time | No loss |
| Colors | 16.7 million | 16.7 million, plus transparency |
In short: use JPG for photos that are shown or sent, and PNG for graphics, text, screenshots and anything transparent or edited many times. For printing, the resolution of the picture (about 300 dots per inch at the printed size) matters more than the format; a high-quality JPG and a PNG print the same.

Frequently asked questions
Is the JPG to PNG converter free and private?
Yes. No registration, no watermark, and your pictures are not uploaded.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the JPG?
PNG stores every pixel without loss, JPG stores a compressed approximation. For photos the PNG is usually several times larger.
Does it keep the colors and the size?
Yes: the PNG has the same pixels as the decoded JPG. Metadata such as EXIF and GPS location is not copied.
